Crocicchio, the small village where the farmhouse is located, has been located since time immemorial at the crossroads of important roads that, in Roman times, connected Emilia to Tuscany via an ancient military road, and along the minor roads, the parish churches, villages, and castles of the surrounding area. It was an almost obligatory crossroads on the paths and roads leading to the ancient watermills on the Crostolo and Campola streams. It was almost certainly also a resting point for changing horses.
